Olan Edman “Owie” Brown
1933-2020
Olan Edman “Owie” Brown – 87,
Kemptown, passed away Monday, December 28, 2020 with his loving
sister, Ruth, holding his hand, at Colchester East Hants Health
Centre, Truro. Born in Kemptown, he was a son of the late Harry and
Myrtle (Perrin) Brown.
Olan is survived by his beloved wife, Elizabeth
“Carol” (Oickle); children, Wanda (Dan) Woodland, Niagara
Falls, Ontario; Debbie (Rick) Weatherby, Kemptown; Ches Brown,
Kemptown; Lola Taylor (Howard Thompson), Edmonton, Alberta;
grandchildren, Amy Woodland, Kimberly McDonald, Amanda Brown, Bobby
Weatherby, Justin Brown, Danielle Brown, Brandon Taylor,
Candace Weatherby, Amy Weatherby; great
grandchildren, Lennon, Logan, Miya, Delilah, Wyatt, Jackson,
Robert, Tessa Lee, Dylan, Dustin, Isaiah; sisters, Ruth (Ron)
Nordquist, Dot (Paul) McNutt, Elda Hilder.
Owie and Carol were happily married for 62 years and lived in
Kemptown. He was a loving husband, father, Papa and friend to
everyone. He worked as a welder by trade until his retirement. He was
a “Jack of all trades” when it came to fixing and repairing
things for himself or anyone who needed the help. His love of fishing
and hunting would be life long, from teaching his children to fish to
the many hours he and his dear friend, Ritchie, spent in the woods.
His love of music never faded and you could often catch him singing
along to Wilf Carter on the radio or during the many hours he spent
listening to his records in the garage.
His sense of humor was boundless and his love of pulling
pranks, telling jokes or pulling a quarter magically out from behind a
child’s ear always made him smile and made his blue eyes
sparkle. He loved playing cards and the legendary Thursday night poker
games will never be the same.
He loved spending time with his best friend, Christa Jessome,
and the visits they would have with Stevie Weatherby. He had lifelong
friends that were truly life long and he missed them all greatly when
they were gone.
Owie moved five times in his life and all within a mile of
each other, finally ending up across the road from the farm where he
was born. If he met you and liked you, then he loved you, and that
made you family. If a man’s life is defined by his loves,
then Owie Brown was a rich man, for he gave and received love in
abundance. He will live on in his children, grandchildren and great
grandchildren for they love him as much as he did them, and he will be
greatly missed every day.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nursing staff
on 3D, Colchester East Hants Health Centre for the wonderful care that
he received. Celebration of Olan’s life will be held at a
later date. If so desired, donations in Olan’s memory to
Kidney Foundation Atlantic (Truro Chapter) are
welcomed.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall –
Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro. Private messages of
