Mrs. Norine Edwards
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Norine Edith Edwards, in her 101st year, a resident of Chatham, at Copper Terrace Nursing Home on Saturday, June 20th, 2020 surrounded by her loved ones. Norine will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by Wayne, her husband of 67 years. She was the daughter of the late Grant and Florence Austin and predeceased by her sister, Louise Field (Harold). Norine is survived by her treasured brother-in-law Gary Edwards and his wife Jackie, niece Shelley, nephews Ryan and Marc, as well as three great nephews. Norine was honorary Aunt to, and cherished by Elizabeth Lahey, Karen Woods, Ron Mann, Kathy Zimmer and Keri McGregor. Since her early years, Norine was active in her faith, being a member of Park Street United Church, and later St. Andrew’s United Church. She continued her missionary work by sponsoring many children in various parts of the world. Norine was extremely proficient in her career as a bookkeeper working for many years at Dover Corporation and Forsyth Travel. She and Wayne shared their love for their cat Blacky, their red Camaro, watching professional baseball and hockey, travelling to various corners of the world and pursuing their interest in photography. They took pride in their home in Chatham, their vacation home in Florida and their trailer, enjoying camping for several years. Many a Saturday night was spent in a high-spirited game of Cribbage, Euchre or Rummoli with their closest friends. Norine always enjoyed a lively discussion, loved to read, had a wonderful sense of humour, and was a truly caring and compassionate soul to those who knew her. Her caring was extended to the community through many years of volunteering for the Canadian Cancer Society. Special thanks to Mary and Brad Easter for their support, the kind-hearted and compassionate PSWs who spent many hours over the past year and a half with Norine, and to the dedicated staff on 3East at Copper Terrace. The funeral service for Norine will be streamed lived from the funeral home on Thursday June 25th, 2020 at 11 am. with Deacon Chris Masterson officiating. A memorial service will be held at a later date when restrictions are eased. Those wishing to make a memorial donation are asked to consider the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, the Canadian Cancer Society, St. Andrew’s United Church.
