La célébration de
Niki Sarvos
21 juin 1934 –
8 novembre 2020
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear Mother and Babba, Niki Sarvos (nee Pappas) on Sunday November 8th, 2020 at St. Joseph’s Hospital, surrounded by her three loving children. She leaves behind her beloved husband Tom, and her children Peter (Catherine) Sarvos, Christine, Mary (Steve) Martin, and grandchildren Daniel Sarvos (Jessica), Matthew Sarvos (Brittany), Steven Sarvos, Justin Sarvos, Kaitlin Wilson, Taylor Wilson, Megan Martin, Joseph Martin, and great-grandchildren Audrey, Oliver, Sloane, and Duke.
Niki was born June 21, 1934 in the village of Paroreio, 10km NW of Florina, Greece. She is predeceased by her parents Reverend Father Markus Papadimitriou (Pappas), a Greek Orthodox Priest, and Eleni Papadimitriou (Pappas), her sister Photini Toulis, and brothers Peter Pappas and Gus Pappas. She is survived by her sister Diti Poulos (Georgopoulos) and brothers Angelo Pappas (Tina), George Pappas, Bill Pappas (Kalypso) and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She will be sadly missed by many family and friends in Canada, Greece, and Australia.
Niki was 5 years old when war broke out in Europe. She arrived in Canada in the mid 1950s, as a part of the family’s plan to leave their strife-ridden homeland for the promise of a better life. Niki was introduced to Athanasios Servos (Sarvos), a young man who, like her, had also recently arrived from a village in Greece near Niki’s birthplace. A short time afterward, Tom and Niki were married and started their family. Niki worked very hard to support her young family, doing any number of general labour jobs in Hamilton, from meat processing to candy making, to paper packaging manufacturing, among others. Niki’s world revolved around her family and she was immensely proud of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her family wishes to thank the wonderful Nurses of St. Joseph’s Palliative Care, and Dr. Boyle, Dr. Lucas, and Dr. Cheung.
