Nicholas George 2020

May 28, 1930-December 20, 2020
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Nicholas George on December 20, 2020 at the age of 90. Beloved husband of 42 years to Chrissanthy (nee Popmarkov). Dear father of James George and Valerie George. Predeceased by his children, Michael, Sylvia Fraser and Andy George. Beloved Dedo of Kaitlyn Fraser. Predeceased by parents Angelo and Velika George. Adored brother of Helen Ebach (Lee). Dear uncle of Mike (Lauren) Zimmerman, Krissie Zimmerman. Great uncle of Nola, Madeline and George. Brother-in-law of George and Nada Popmarkov. Adoring stepfather of Angelo Lambros (Maylene), Alexandra (Sandi) Willar (Greg Frederick). Special Dedo of Gina Lambros (Scott), Tanya Ricci (Roberto), Matthew Willar (Lindsey), Amy Farron (Jay). Great Dedo of Lila, Turner and Matteo. Survived by many cousins and friends in Canada, Australia and Macedonia.
Nick was born in Mala, Macedonia in 1930. Life was difficult in Greece and his father emigrated to Canada while his wife Velika was pregnant. He wanted to provide for his family. Nick was raised by his mother, grandparents, uncle, aunts and five cousins, who all lived together in the family home. In 1947, Nick and his mother emigrated to Canada to join his father and to meet him for the first time. What a joyous time for him. Nick loved this country and Canada would become his new home. One year later, in 1948, his sister Helen was born. Their family was complete. Nick’s father, Angelo, owned and operated The Detroit Grill with two partners. Nick worked as a dishwasher and went to school. He married Dorothy in 1952 and raised five children. In 1957, Nick and his father bought the Riverside Tavern (well known for their pizza). In 1978, he met and married the love of his life Chrissanthy (nee Lambros). After several years, they built a beautiful home on their 50 acre farm in Woodslee. They raised chickens, goats and sheep. Along with the family dogs and cats, they provided many happy memories for them and the grandchildren. In 1988, Nick retired and he and Chrissanthy enjoyed life on the farm. He loved riding his tractor and long walks with his dog, Goldie. All these memories reminded him of his youth growing up on the family farm in Macedonia. Many family celebrations were enjoyed at the farm. In 2011, they sold their farm and moved to Lasalle to be closer to family and their church, St. Nicholas Macedonian Orthodox Church. He was one of a group of seven who founded and built their church.
The family would like to thank the staff at Extendacare Southwood Lakes, The Village at St. Clair, the doctors and nurses on 2 North at WRH-Ouellette Campus for the tender loving care in his final days.
If you so desire, donations to the Alzheimer’s Society of Windsor & Es County would be appreciated by the family.
A private family service is being held.
Burial at Windsor Memorial Gardens.
