Nicholas Boyko Thursday January 2nd 2020

Nicholas (Nick) Boyko of Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan passed away peacefully at the age of 99 years on January 2, 2020, at the Meadow Lake Hospital. Nick was born on March 19, 1920 in Prud’homme, Saskatchewan to John and Mary (nee Chrusch) Boyko. He was the fourth eldest of six children.
Nick attended Canoe Lake School in the Prud’homme area, and furthered his education through correspondence, and various agricultural courses.
In 1944, Nick married Nettie Hryniuk in Vonda, Saskatchewan. Together they farmed in Prud’homme for a couple years. They ventured to the Vancouver area where Nick worked at a sawmill, Marshall Wells (shipping department of automotive supplies), and the Ford assembly factory in Burnaby.
Nick’s parents moved and settled in Meadow Lake and requested help on the farm, so Nick and Nettie moved to Meadow Lake temporarily to give a helping hand. Their “temporary” stay became permanent and they made the farm their home for the rest of their lives, raising their two children, Danny and Patricia.
In the span of nearly 100 years, Nick experienced a lot of history, challenges, and blessings, while maintaining a grain and cattle farm. Nick enjoyed the outdoors and was always an early riser. He took pride in his farm which was evident in the endless hours he dedicated and the respect he showed to the land and animals.
Together he and his loving wife, Nettie, welcomed visitors from far and near to their family farm home and always extended the greatest hospitality.
When Nick wasn’t attending to the fields or livestock he enjoyed trapping, hunting, fishing, mushroom picking, berry picking, and gardening.
Nick had a strong Christian faith, attending Borshchiv Ukrainian Catholic Church in his younger years, and then St. Catherine Ukrainian Catholic Church in Meadow Lake, which he helped build. At that time he was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. Nick’s enduring faith and love for God guided him throughout his life, and he was grateful for all his blessings.
Nick was predeceased by his parents John and Mary Boyko, loving wife Nettie (Hryniuk), sister and brother-in-law Anne (Peter) Ewanchuk, brother and sister-in-law Peter (Emma) Boyko, sister Catherine Boyko, sister-in-law Flora Boyko, and brother-in- law Michael Matsalla.
Nick will be lovingly remembered by his son Danny (Margo) Boyko, of Meadow Lake, daughter Patricia (Russ) Thompson of Yorkton, grandchildren: Brendan Boyko, Micaela (Darren) Madson, Alexandra Thompson, great grandchildren: Myia Boyko, Carter Thompson, sister Emily Matsalla of Calgary and brother Wally Boyko of Milton, Ontario.
Funeral Liturgy was held on January 9, 2020 at 10:30 am from Our Lady of Peace Roman Catholic Church in Meadow Lake with the interment at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Meadow Lake.
