Obituary of Nettie Todd
Nettie Todd (Anastasia Schurko), born April 20,1926, daughter of Stefan and Eva Schurko passed away on January 7,2020 at the age of 93. Born in Peremyshliany, a region of Ukraine, she immigrated to Canada, arriving on the ship SS Regina with her family at the age of four. She married Albert(Ed), a WWII veteran who passed away at age 55 in 1976. She is survived by sons Robert (Bob), Barry, daughter Brenda, grandsons Jesse, Lee, Kyle, Brennan and Christopher, as well as great grand children and numerous nieces and nephews. Nettie was predeceased by husband Albert, parents Stefan and Eva, brothers Alec and John, sisters Mary, Kay and Jean. After arriving in Canada, Nettie and her family arrived in Willowbrook, Saskatchewan and farmed there briefly. They then moved to a farm near Rose Valley (Nora) SK. Where she went to a small schoolhouse near the farm with her brothers and sisters. Nettie continued to live alone in the house in Saskatoon where we grew up, then Ilarian Residence in 2012 and finally Luther care home in 2014.she had a green thumb, nurturing her beautiful flowers and vegetable garden. She also worked for a time at Kilborn Hall in Saskatoon. She had a passion for handicrafts and was skilled at quilting, embroidery, needlepoint and Easter eggs. Nettie was loved by many, particularly with relatives, long term neighbors and those with whom she had deep rooted friendships. Many thanks to the nurses and staff at Luther Special Care Home for their care and compassion. Nettie was a loving wife, mother and grand mother. She will be sadly missed. A family memorial service will be held at a later date.
