It is with saddened hearts, that the family of Nellie Gillingham, announce her peaceful passing on December 19th, 2020, at Lakeside Homes at the age of 90 years old.
Nanny Nellie was a wonderfully devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, Aunt, and friend who had a strong will and extreme pride in her family.
She is predeceased by her parents Maxwell and Ida Bursey, husband Otto Gillingham, Son Gary Brett Gillingham, Brother Scott Bursey, Sisters Joyce Rose and Jacqueline Rowe, and niece Debbie Thistle.
She will be greatly missed by her devoted children Mona Byrne (Gillingham), Dean Gillingham, Glen Gillingham (Matilda Gillingham), her grandchildren Jason Byrne (Chanda Byrne), Janine Norris (Bill Norris), Tiffany Gillingham (Owen Chaulk), Maxwell Gillingham, and Janell Gillingham (Brandon Wood). Nanny Nellie reserved a very special place in her heart for her precious great-grandchildren Joshua and Emma Byrne, Claire and Dominic Norris, and Rogan and Riley Chaulk; brothers: Gilbert Bursey (Rita Bursey), Lorne Bursey (Wanda Bursey); sister-in-law Rose Bursey and also leaving to mourn with loving memories is a large circle of friends and family. We will all miss her greatly.
Cremation has taken place and a small celebration of her life will be held on Monday, December 21st, 2020 from 12:00 – 2:00pm at Stacey’s Funeral Home in Gander, with a burial to follow with immediate family only at the United Church cemetery in Glenwood.
In lieu of flowers or donations, we ask that you take a moment to hug your child, grandchild, friend, or walk in the woods for a moment, an hour, or a day. Nanny Nellie loved to feed the jays, and to listen to the birds as they sing. We hope the next time you watch the birds in the sky, you smile and find peace in knowing our precious Nanny Nellie is now flying high and watching over us all.
