Nancy Stark passed away on Sunday, March 29, 2020, just two months after her husband of 64 years, Roy, also passed. Although Nancy remained in the family home until the end, her final hours were spent peacefully, surrounded by family, at Vancouver General Hospital (VGH). Enormous gratitude is felt for the staff at VGH and the many care aids from GVCSS who tended to Nancy at home amongst the dangerous chaos of Covid-19.
Born June 26, 1931, Nancy was predeceased by her parents Tatiana and Fred as well as her ‘force of nature’ kid brother, Bill, who passed away suddenly just four months before her. Nancy was also recently predeceased by her young grandson, Michael, a victim of Fentanyl poisoning.
She is survived and sorrowfully missed by daughters Tanya (Peter) and Kathleen as well as grandchildren David, Stuart, Conrad, Nicola and Claire.
Nancy shared many cherished family connections over her 88 years. Some of those most dear to her heart were Mary, Bill, Lloyd, Vera, Fionn, Doreen, John, Jennette and Mary Elizabeth. Also, she loved her many nieces and nephews.
Although Nancy held various jobs over the years, her most cherished work was accomplished within the holds of family. Her devotion as wife, mother and grandma can only be described as remarkable. The legacy she leaves behind is etched deeply and forever on her daughters’ hearts.
Nancy, along with husband Roy, were active members of Oakridge United Church. Nancy’s devotion to Oakridge United was so strong that she even mentioned her concern for the church during her final hours. She was involved in many church projects including helping to run the thrift store and visiting those who were shut-in.
Nancy leaves the world with three precious gifts: the importance of family, an unbelievable work ethic (we often called Nancy a domestic work-aholic) and the ability to never admit defeat!
A joint Memorial Service for Nancy and Roy at the new Oakridge United Church will be held in Summer 2020. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the United Church of Canada, www.united-church.ca/community-faith/get-involved/giving-opportunities
Or the Greater Vancouver Community Services Society, www.gvcss.bc.ca/donate.htm
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Nancy Stark June 26 1931 – March 29 2020..
