Murray E. Weld
Murray Elviage Weld, only son of the late Fred and Kathleen (Elviage) Weld of Caradoc Township, born June 25, 1933 died peacefully at his Delaware home, on Sunday, February 16, 2020, with his loving family by his side. Survived by his loving wife and best friend for 62 years Audrey (nee: Branston), only daughter of the late Chester and Ruby Branston and four special children, Stephan (Jody), Wendy Bedford (Paul), Trudy Williams (Andy) and Kevin (Yvonne). Also survived by his only sister Maddy Kalar (late Vince), niece Charlene Jansen (Peter) and nephews Paul (Bobbie) and Ron (Judy) Kalar. Remembered also by his grandchildren, Rachel, Carter, Cassidy, Nate, Meaghan, Celena, Sarah, Emily, Jacob, Leah, Brennan and seven great-grandchildren.
Murray was a Village Trustee and Planning Board Chairman for Delaware. He was an active Mason for 60+ years being Past Master of Delaware Valley Lodge #358 and presently a member of Ashlar Lodge #610, Byron, and in 1999 was appointed Grand Steward by Grand Lodge. Murray also was past President of Delaware Lions Club serving on several committees. He was a life-long member of the Anglican faith of Delaware Christ Church and now St. Anne’s (Byron).
Murray was employed in Construction for over 40 years working first with McKay-Cocker and then Ellis-Don, London. He with his wife, travelled to many foreign countries and enjoyed camping in many Provincial Parks; was also a Blue Jays fan and loved curling, both watching on TV and playing at Ilderton Curling Club. Murray enjoyed a good game of bridge with friends but most of all being part his children and grandchildren’s lives. He truly will be missed.
Friends may visit at the McFarlane & Roberts Funeral Home, 2240 Wharncliffe Road S., Lambeth (519) 652-2020 on Thursday, from 2:00 – 4:00 and 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. The service celebrating Murray’s life will be held at St. Anne’s Anglican Church, 1344 Commissioners Road West, London, Ontario N6K 1E1 on Friday, February 21, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. Interment, St. Anne’s Cemetery. Donations to St. Anne’s Anglican Church (Byron) or the charity of choice gratefully acknowledged. On-line condolences are available through www.mcfarlane-roberts.ca.
There will be a Masonic memorial service under the auspice of Ashlar Lodge #610 on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. and a Lions memorial service on Thursday evening at 6:30 p.m. both at the funeral home. Special thank you to Dr. Hemphill and his team at Byron Medical Centre and the VON Palliative Care nurses for all Murray’s wonderful care.
