Passed away after a courageous struggle with illness, with his loving family by his side, on Sunday, January 12th, 2020 at the Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital, Murray Ross Palen of Tillsonburg, in his 84th year. Lifelong resident of Tillsonburg, Murray was a dairy farmer and worked for E&E McLaughlin. Member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 153, Tillsonburg. Murray treasured his family and his many good friends, all of whom will miss him dearly. Murray loved baseball which he played, umped and coached all his life. Murray was always willing to lend a helping hand. Murray enjoyed playing horseshoes and every year Sam hosted “Murray’s Annual Horseshoe Tournament.” Murray loved people and being with people and always had a cold beverage ready for visitors. Murray was a man who had many skills, always ready to jump into fixing or building projects being a “jack of all trades.” He will be missed for his smile, laughter and many jokes. Predeceased by his much loved wife Janice (Hatton) Palen (1996). Survived by Debbie (Bryan Bailey) and their sons: Russell and Jesse: Ross (Sam) (Lisa) Palen and son Sam; Yvonne (Mark Jones) and their son Kyle and daughter Kirstie and Scott Palen (Jackie) and their son Cole and daughter Callie. Murray will be also missed by his many nieces, nephews and cousins. Survived by a special friend Carla Graves and family. Predeceased by three brothers and four sisters and much loved granddaughter Alexis.
Cremation has taken place at Murray’s expressed wish. Everyone who knew Murray is welcome to a Celebration of His Life at the Royal Canadian Legion Br. #153, Tillsonburg on Saturday, January 25th,2020 from 1 to 4 pm. Interment will take place at a later date in the Tillsonburg Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations in memory of Murray by cheque or on our website to the “Royal Canadian Legion, Tillsonburg,” or to the “Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital Foundation,” or to any charity of your choice would be appreciated by the Palen family.
