Muriel was born in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago to Georgina and Godfrey Cumberbatch on the 5th of January, 1922.
She married Alfred Ruthven Chin Aleong on December 20, 1942 and had a family of 4 children.
She enjoyed a career as a Geriatric Care Aide. She also worked in her earlier years as a beautician and hair stylist, hospital switchboard operator, and pharmacy assistant. She was a devoted member of the Richmond SDA Church and enjoyed singing and daily devotions. Her leisure time activities included Matlock, Columbo, the Andy Griffith Show, and the Young and the Restless.
Muriel is predeceased by her siblings Edward and Gladstone Cumberbatch, and her husband Alfred Ruthven Chin Aleong.
Over the years, her family grew, and she is lovingly survived by her children: Glenda Prime (Peter), Keith (Jane), Wendy Thompson (Desmond) and Neil. Also missing her are grandchildren: Peter Prime II (Mary), Jeanine Prime (Andru Prescod), Nicole Streater (Rahmaan), Janelle Hanley (Dale), Janese Larocque (Steven), and Janessa Mason (Mike) and her great-grandchildren: Shanese Larocque, Allaire Streater, Evan Prescod, Noa Streater, Shanae Larocque, Judah Prime, Shaniah Larocque, Cameron Hanley, Grant Hanley and Micah Prime.
Mourning her passing are close friends: Eleanor Rodriguez, Donna Shale, Victoria and Roy, Mihaela and Daniel, Jane Schmidt and members of the Richmond SDA Church.
We will honour and celebrate her life on Saturday, February 8, 2020 at the Richmond SDA Church (8711 Cambie Road, Richmond, BC) at 3:30 pm.
