FIRTH: Moneta Irene passed away peacefully on August 14, 2020 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre at the age of 103. She was born in rural Saskatchewan near Carievale in 1917. In 1945, Moneta’s future husband Stanley was in the Air Force and returning to Canada from overseas. Moneta caught a train east to meet him and they were married in Toronto. Their love remained strong for 53 years until Stanley passed away in 1998. They established and operated the Massey Ferguson dealership in MacGregor, MB from 1946-1964. They raised a daughter Bonena Irene (Bonnie) and a son, William Stanley (Bill). In 1964, the family moved to Brandon. Moneta and Stanley enjoyed travelling in their camper whether it was to a local lake or to some distant destination. They travelled east to Montreal for Expo 67, west to Victoria, BC to visit Bill, north to the Yukon and south through the states to Florida. From there they enjoyed a cruise to the Bahamas to celebrate a special anniversary. They also flew to Europe, rented a car and toured England and Scotland and visited the Orkney Islands where Stanley was born. Moneta is pre-deceased by her loving husband, Stanley; sisters, Verna, Myrtle, and Marilyn as well as daughter Bonnie’s husband, Rudy, and son Bill’s loving wife, Dianne. Moneta is survived by her sister, Myrna and husband Allen Hattie and family; daughter Bonnie Schellenberg; son Bill; granddaughters Renee Firth and Lauren Pond (Craig) and their children who are great grandchildren to Moneta: Kayla, Haven, Liberty and Grace as well as many nieces and nephews. Special thanks to brother-in-law Allen Hattie and Moneta’s neighbours Mr. and Mrs. Boulet, their daughter Jeannine and her sons Brenden and Shelden. Their love and support enabled Moneta to remain in her own home as she wished until age 100. Moneta enjoyed her last three years at Victoria Landing. A small graveside service was held on August 20, 2020. Moneta’s love has touched many and although she has left us her love and spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew her forever.
