Mildred Ethel Fenton
1931-2020
Mildred Ethel Fenton, 88, of Fundy Royal Manor and
formerly of Albert Mines passed away on January 22, 2020 at
the Moncton Hospital with her family by her
side.
Mildred was born in Hillsborough on July
2,1931 the daughter of the late J. Watson and Alice
(Jonah) Steeves.
She was a housewife and mother and also worked at T.E.Eaton
Company at Christmas time to help out in the busy season.
She sold Avon all over Albert County. She was a
faithful member of the Surrey Valley Baptist Church.
The message of the gospel was so important to her that she
wanted to share with others and this led her to participate in many
church activities. She was very active in the Women’s
Missionary Society, Pioneer Girls, the Awana Program
and she sang in the choir for years. She was a
lifetime member of the Edgett’s Landing Women’s
Institute, being a member for over 50 years.
Mildred loved being in the community and with her Institute
ladies; she was always willing to lend a helping hand.
She was known for her baking and made many wedding and
birthday cakes over the years. She was a
Provincial judge for Home Economics for the rural fairs.
Mildred and Eldon loved snowmobiling and enjoy the many trips through
Caledonia Mountain. She enjoyed bird watching and loved seeing the
chickadees. After Eldon passed she and her friends were
known as “The Golden Girls” and enjoyed their many
adventures while camping at Fundy Park. While she
was at the nursing home her favourite pastime was knitting, doing
crossword puzzles and reading her Bible. She is now with her
Lord and Saviour and at peace.
Psalms 46:10- He says, “Be
still, and know that I am God; I will be
exalted among the nations; I will be exalted in the
earth.”
She will be deeply missed by her daughter,
Diane Brantnall (Gary)
of Hillsborough and son,
John Fenton (Judy) of Riverview; her
grandsons, John Witham Jr. and
Scott Fenton. She will also be missed by several
nieces, nephews and by all her extended family and
friends.
Mildred was the last surviving member of her immediate
family. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her
beloved husband, Eldon Fenton; son-in-law,
John Witham; brothers,
Harold Steeves (Frances),
Gerald Steeves (Verna) and sister,
Margaret Dixson (George).
She will be resting at the Surrey Valley Baptist Church
with visitation on Friday, January 24th, 2020 from 2-4,
7-9pm. The funeral service will be held at the Surrey Valley
Baptist Church on Saturday, January 25th, 2020 at 2:30pm
with Rev. Wayne Johnson officiating and Rev. Don MacDougall
assisting. Interment will be in the
Grey’s Island Cemetery, Hillsborough, NB at
a later date.
For those who wish donations to the Surrey Valley Baptist
Church or charity of the donor’s choice would be greatly appreciated
by the family.
