Michael Sylliboy
1967-2020
Sylliboy, Michael – Age
52, We’koqma’q First
Nations. It is with great sadness that we announce the
passing of our father, grandfather, brother, uncle and a great friend
to all on Tuesday, May 5, 2020.
Born in Boston on July 15, 1967, he was a son of the late
Clarence Patles and Alexandrine Sylliboy. He was raised by
the late William and Janet Sylliboy.
Mickey was a carpenter by trade and profession. He mentored
and taught so many people his carpentry skills. He did not
discriminate, he was proud to teach some women as well. All of
masterpieces are displayed through out our community and many others.
Mickey did the majority of his work from his heart. His usual fee
payments was a request for a meal. Now let’s talk about
Mickey and his meals. Mickey proclaimed himself the “biggest food
critic”. He probably made waitresses and chefs on edge when he
walked in the door of their establishments. He wouldn’t
hesitate to let them know what was wrong with the food, giving the
chefs advice on how they should cook.
Mickey’s personality was as unique as him. He was
all rough and tough on the outside, on the inside, he had a heart of
gold. A sentimental man who loved his family and friends. He wore his
heart on his plaid sleeves. His constant companion, gave him warmth
that many people were fortunate enough to feel and that was his
stocking hat. Two words that keep coming up when talking about Mickey,
Santa Claus. He gave and gave, what he had, he gave. He loved so much
and was not a greedy man, not a rich man but what he did have, he
gave. If you needed it, he had it, that meant, you were given a gift
from Mickey.
Mickey loved his friends and family will probably forever
hear his famous sayings “you think” “not my forte”
“it’s only common sense” “doesn’t
take a rocket scientist” “punk”.
“put a tear to my eye” this is another one of his
famous sayings that captured his true sentiment. Mickey was pure heart
and his heart spoke in this famous saying. He loved so hard and
wasn’t afraid to show or speak his emotions.
Mickey’s faith in God was unsurpassed. He truly
believed in the Lord, in Jesus and St. Anne. His faith gives us all
comfort and we all know that Mickey was greeted by Jesus at the gates
of heaven. After that greeting, Mickey probably took out his tool belt
to make some adjustments to the pearly gates.
Mickey loved his family, his children. His dedication to his
family was amazing. His grandchildren were the light of his eyes and
brought him much joy in the latter years of his life. The love Mickey
showed his family was amazing to witness. You’ve been
blessed to have the best in your life.
So, whenever you hear the lyrics “I fix broken hearts,
I’m your handy Man” Smile. Remember the good memories,
the fun times. We love you. We will miss you.
Mickey is survived by his children, Elizabeth Ann and
