La célébration de
Michael Homonko
2 novembre 1928 –
4 mai 2020
With profound sadness we announce the unexpected passing of Michael Homonko on Monday, May 4, 2020, loving husband, best friend and dancing partner of Alice (Tkacz) for 59 years, treasured Dad to Kathleen (Reid Farrill), Darlene, Christine (Brian Moran) and many cousins, nieces and nephews in the Montreal, Toronto, Hamilton, Orangeville, Stoney Creek and Edmonton areas.
On first stepping onto Canadian soil at the young age of 10 from the Battoria, the last ship out of Gdansk, six months before the start of World War II, Michael became a proud Canadian of his adopted country. As well, he was a proud member of the class of 1948 at Royal Military College in Kingston but especially so as a Junior Cadet he had the honour to dismiss the parade with Queen Elizabeth, then Princess, in the reviewing stand! While in the Air Force, he flew supplies to Japan during the Korean War and participated in survival exercises in the Alberta wilderness and the Arctic. Michael believed in giving back. He was an active member of Ste. Sophie’s holding various positions on the Church Council but most of all he was one of the founding members of the Mazeppa Credit Union, now part of Desjardins. After retiring from the Canadian Pulp and Paper Association of Canada he took up golf and co-founded the Pro Duffers. In the winter, curling at Montreal West Curling Club, taking on executive jobs and watching the Habs helped pass the cold months. However, his family was always foremost in his heart. He loved his four girls. They could do no harm. We’ll miss his quiet ways, that special sense of humour but most of all his unconditional love.
If you wish to make a donation in Michael’s memory, please consider Ste. Sophie’s Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral, 6520 12th. Avenue, Montreal, Quebec, H1X 3A5, or any other charity of your choice.
Till we meet again. Vichnaya Pamyiat. Eternal Memory.
