MacNeil, Michael Francis – Age 74, Truro. We are sad to inform you of the sudden passing of our father and husband, Michael Francis MacNeil of Truro in the QEII-Halifax Infirmary on December 8, 2020. Mike was born in Antigonish on May 29, 1946 to the late Beatrice (Samson) and Michael MacNeil.
He received his Nova Scotia Land Surveyor’s qualification on September 16, 1972 and spent 32 years working for the Nova Scotia Department of Transportation. He greatly enjoyed his retirement of 19 years spending time doing whatever he wanted especially travelling. One of his favourite past-times was geocaching with good friends, where he had over 4000 finds.
He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Maureen (Forgeron) MacNeil; daughters, Wendy MacNeil and Jennifer (Dave) Courish; two grandchildren, Mark (Maggie) Courish and Kristin Courish and two great-grandchildren, Clara and Amy Courish. He is also survived by his five siblings, Margaret Ann (Ronnie) Dwyer, Roddie (Tanya) MacNeil, John (Judy) MacNeil, Simonne (Bill Perry) MacNeil and Paul (Anna) MacNeil.
A by-invitation only funeral mass arranged by the family will be held in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Truro on Tuesday, December 15, 2020 at 1:00 pm. COVID -19 restrictions in place. Interment in St. Louis Parish Cemetery in Louisdale, NS will take place at a later date. Donations in memory may be made to the St. Louis Cemetery Fund or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
