KSHYMENSKY: Merle Kshymensky of Brandon, Manitoba passed away on Friday, August 28, 2020 at her residence. Merle was born on May 20, 1940 in Brandon, Manitoba, the daughter of Robert and May Evans of Nesbitt, Manitoba. Merle spent most of her childhood in Nesbitt. She later moved to Brandon in her late teens. At a community dance, Merle met her future husband, Anthony (Tony) Kshymensky. They were united in marriage on June 18, 1960. They enjoyed twenty-three years of marriage before Tony’s untimely passing. Together they had four daughters and a son who passed soon after birth. They raised their family for a number of years in Brandon. They then moved to Flin Flon, The Pas, and then back to Brandon in 1979. While in The Pas, they built a house together on a beautiful piece of land on the banks of the Carrot River. Merle worked as a nurse’s aide, at the same time caring for her young children; as Tony often worked in the northern parts of Manitoba and would be away for weeks at a time. Merle was a hard worker. After Tony passed, she worked two jobs to provide for her family. One of her jobs was at the ANAF in Brandon. She enjoyed socializing and waiting on the customers. Many who became her close friends, and later joined us in celebrating her retirement in 2005. The building was packed, with many family and friends there to show their love for Merle. Nothing was more important to Merle than her family. One of the ways mom showed her love was through her amazing cooking and baking. She often hosted all the big family meals, insisting on doing most of it herself. Merle also enjoyed canning and gardening. Canning almost anything that didn’t move. Her home was filled with a number of plants as she had an over functioning green thumb! Merle was a loving person with a great sense of humor, a little sassy and witty at times. She loved curling (watching and playing). Merle and Tony played on a team and won many tournaments. She also played on a shuffleboard team, a long time running “championship team“. Merle’s family included her late husband, Anthony; their four daughters, Cindy Kshymensky, Jacquie (Ryan) Schott, her late daughter Tammy Davis and Colleen Tschetter (Kevin). Their eight grandchildren; Angela, Anthony, Ashley (Thomas), Jesse, Brayden, Autumn, Taylor and Adrian. In addition to her parents, husband, daughter and son, Merle was preceded in passing by her sisters; Jean McCutcheon, Viola Hopkins, Jessie Turton and brothers; Bill, Ed, Bob and Herbie Evans as well as many in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends. A Private Graveside Service will be held at Rosewood Memorial Gardens on Friday, September 4, 2020. A Celebration of Merle’s life will be held at a later date.
