Melvin (Happy) Wilford Hortness
1926 – 2020
Melvin (Happy) Hortness passed away at the Redvers Health Centre Special Care Home, Redvers, Sask. on Saturday, July 4, 2020 at the age of 93.
Melvin was predeceased by his wife Joyce Elaine Hortness in 2010; parents: Karen and Lewis Hortness; brothers: Henry, Lawrence, Albert, Newman, Rueben, Daniel, William, Harold, Victor and Carl; sisters: Goldie and Sylvia. He was the last surviving member of his family.
He is survived by his son Lorne Hortness and daughters: Irene Hortness and Marion Hortness, all of Redvers, Sask.
Melvin grew up around Alida, Sask. and farmed near Redvers, Sask. from 1950 onward. He lived on the farm until his health declined in 2019 and spent his last few months in the Redvers Health Centre Special Care Home.
In keeping with Melvin’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a family graveside service will take place at a later date at the Redvers Town Cemetery.
If friends so desire, donations in Melvin’s memory may be made to a charity of choice.
