Memorial Donation
Melva Frances McEwen (nee Elliott)
March 16, 1945 – August 15, 2020
It is with heavy hearts and immense sadness that we announce the sudden passing of an adored Daughter, Sister, Wife, Mother and Nan. Born to the late Stanley and Doris of Botwood, Newfoundland.
Melva was married to and will be forever missed by her loving husband James (Jim) McEwen of 52 years.
She is survived by her children Paula of Strathroy, Ontario, Jason (Amanda) of Deer Lake, Newfoundland, Garth (Nadine) of North Bay, Ontario; grandchildren (Nan’s girls) Marissa, Kiara, Mackenzie, and Penelope; siblings Arthur (Ruth) Elliott, Ruth (Dave) Tremblett, June (Dave) Burden, Everett (Linda) Elliott, Terry Cutler, Lloyd (Ernestine) Elliott, Carol Anne (Stewart) Morgan, Ernest (Sharon) Elliott, Joy (Dave) Payne, Marilyn (Dennis) Healey and many nieces and nephews all of Newfoundland.
Predeceased by her sisters Donna Cutler of Milton, Ontario and Mary Lou Small of Moreton’s Harbour, Newfoundland; brother-in-law Iain Small all of Moreton’s Harbour, Newfoundland.
Melva was born and raised in Botwood, Newfoundland. It was in Halifax where she met Jim and was later married in 1968 by Reverend Snow, the same minister that baptized her so many years before. While in Halifax they started their family. They had their first child Paula followed by their first son Jason and then returned to Newfoundland to raise their children where they had their `baby’ Garth. Melva and Jim settled in Cormack, Newfoundland until 1998 where they relocated to Brooks, AB. While in Brooks, Melva retired from Lakeside Packers and when she realized retirement wasn’t for her she went to work at Days Inn. Over the years Melva made many meaningful friendships and relationships along the way. She was always an extremely supportive sister, wife, mother, friend and Nan and was able to make the best out of any situation. A phone call with Melva could last hours as she was always ready to listen and the conversation came so easy. Melva could always be found in the kitchen, whether making homemade bread on Sundays, traditional Newfoundland fare, or baking goodies to share with all. Christmas time was her favourite time of the year and this is when she would do her best baking. Nothing made Melva more proud than her children and grandbabies and all they have accomplished. She will be dearly missed by her husband, children, grandchildren, sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews and friends.
Cremation has taken place and in lieu of flowers, donations to the Botwood United Church in Newfoundland in Melva’s memory would be greatly appreciated.
Melva (Mom/Nan) has returned home to Newfoundland.

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Melva Frances McEwen March 16 1945 August 15 2020..
