It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our amazing mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. On October 26, 2020, Doreen Katherine McDonald passed away peacefully at the age of 82 with family by her side.
She is predeceased by her husband Edward McDonald and parents Mary and Jack Wright. She will be forever missed by her son Gary McDonald (Maureen); daughter Mary Jo McDonald; grandchildren Leanne McDonald (Rob), Jammie de Lima Oliveira (Tainara), Jessie Foisy (Quentin), Emily McDonald, Edward McDonald; and great-grandchildren Keagen, Ella, Brody, and Emmett.
She was born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta where she attended Victoria Composite High School. She excelled academically, and in every sport, and was also a top ranked Alberta speed skater. It was on the ice she met her husband of almost 56 years, Edward McDonald, when he was playing hockey. Doreen was a feisty, strong, and bright woman to the end. Everyone loved her amazingly positive and caring attitude and the fact she never ever complained. She loved to help others, both family and friends whenever she could. Doreen absolutely cherished her family, and her grandchildren brought her great joy. All the grandchildren loved talking to and being around their grandma. She was the true Matriarch of the McDonald Clan. The family will all miss her famous “Spaghetti “and Oooh so good “Spanish Coffee”. Doreen worked for the Edmonton Public School Board in accounting her entire professional career, but her passion was summers at Pigeon Lake. Many of her great memories came from being at her cabin with family. Her presence will forever shine over the place she loved so much.
A Celebration of Doreen’s Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of McDONALD Doreen Katherine October 26 2020..
