Obituary of Maurice Frere
Maurice Andrew Frere passed away suddenly on June 14, 2020 at the age of 76 in an unfortunate quad accident on his farm, out doing what he loved with his cows on his land. Maurice is survived by Nada, his loving and patient wife of thirty-seven years; and their three children, Troy (Kelly) and children, Tyson, Ryan, Owen; Dara (Maegan) and children Hayden, Ben, Charlie; Marnie (Jason) and children Morgan (Austin), Kale and Joeli. Maurice was born in Trochu, Alberta on April 24, 1944, the eldest son to Maurice Sr. and Margaret Frere. Maurice went to school in Trochu and attended Olds Agricultural College and then went on to build a life farming and ranching west of Trochu with his father and two brothers. Maurice had many passions in life, from trying his hand at pony chuck wagons, playing hockey, faithfully watching his beloved Leafs season after season, raising his favourite black cattle, love of horses, trail riding and hunting with his crew, playfully teasing everyone he knew, story-time with his coffees buddies, and above all being the most gentle and loving Papa to his nine grandchildren. Maurice was one of a kind, from his sense of humour, generous and welcoming nature and infectious laugh. No jokes were better than his own, and no family was more loved. We miss you, you were our anchor. “Me too”.
A private family service was held on June 20, 2020 at St. Anne’s Catholic Church and Maurice was laid to rest at the St. Anne of the Prairies Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Maurice may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society in recognition of the far too many loved ones Maurice lost who were dear to him.
