Obituary of MAUREEN LILLIAN EDNA ELLERTON
MAUREEN LILLIAN EDNA ELLERTON
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother Maureen Ellerton, 73, on December 22, 2020 at Riverview Health Center in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Her passing while unexpected was quick and peaceful. Maureen was born on September 22, 1947 in Lindsey, Ontario to the late Gordon and Iris Ellerton. She was predeceased by her husband Tom Ransome, brothers Russell and Marty Ellerton and her sister-in-law Lynne. She is survived by daughters Sherry (Bill) Brown, Kimberly (Ed) Friesen and son Lance (Karla) Vandale. Her grandsons Zachary Brown, Dylan (Kyra) Friesen, and Bradley (Kyla) Friesen and great grandchildren Cohen and Hailey Friesen. She also is survived by her brother Dean Ellerton and niece Shannon Ellerton.
How do you tell the story of one’s life in such a short space? How do you say who she was and what she meant to so many?
Maureen was loved by all who knew her. She was one of the most likeable people you would ever hope to meet. In her life she overcame many obstacles and losses. She grieved deeply over the loss of her parents and it gives us comfort to know that she will spend Christmas with them in heaven.
She was a wonderful Grandma who adored her grandsons and was very excited to finally get a granddaughter. She was a co-conspirator and friend and had many adventures with them.
Mom had many best friends. Darlynn who walked with her through many challenges and remained a friend though many miles separated them. Inez who she met in the hospital when they both underwent knee surgery. Leave it to mom to meet a best friend this way. Caroline who became her fast friend when they roomed together at Riverview. Each one of you enriched her life.
Mom was really well liked but she was also feisty and not always appropriate. Let’s just say she horrified her kids a few times by unabashedly speaking her mind – appropriate or not. But she made us laugh. She had a fast temper but was just as quick to apologize.
She had a wonderful sense of humour and was super klutzy. Her escapades certainly made life fun. Be it falling through glass coffee tables while stringing Christmas lights, throwing away all the lids to my Tupperware, or falling down Sherry’s stairs, she kept us on our toes until the end.
She was tough and kind and did things her own way. It should be no surprise that her exit was unexpected and that it happened during a blizzard and during a pandemic, three days before Christmas.
Mom, Grandma, Friend and Sister, you will be so missed. Rest easy and in peace in the arms of our Saviour, until we meet again.
We want to thank the nurses, health care aides, doctors and staff at Riverview Health Center. Rose, you made her time there blessed and she considered you a dear friend. When we couldn’t be there you stepped in and took such loving care of her. For that we will be eternally grateful.

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of MAUREEN
