MAUREEN LYNN LITTLE
(nee WALKER)
Maureen Lynn Little (nee Walker), age 82, passed away peacefully on May 29, 2020 after being admitted to the Seven Oaks General Hospital. She spent her final days surrounded by her children and grandchildren.
She was born August 25, 1937 in Ashern, Manitoba, to Sadie and James Walker. Maureen spoke fondly of summer trips from Ashern to her paternal grandparent’s farm in Glen Ewen, Saskatchewan with her brothers Keith and James A. (Jimmy). She felt a deep sense of loyalty towards her family and demonstrated it when caring for her parents in their final years. Maureen expressed much grief when her parents and brothers passed.
Her parents moved the family to Winnipeg’s Rathgar Avenue where Maureen began attending Lord Roberts School. Maureen fondly reminisced about her friends, tobogganing on the riverbank, and catching the train to Grand Beach Dance Pavilion whenever she found herself back in the Fort Rouge/South Osborne area. It was during this period of her life in Winnipeg that she met (and married) Donald Alan Little.
Maureen and Donald left Canada after their marriage to settle in the United States. The couple welcomed their children David, Colleen, Alex and Dianne during this time. For many years, Maureen worked hard to provide a home for her family in the United States and when she returned to Neepawa, Canada 1971. Holidays were particularly important to mom. She spent many holidays baking in preparation for family gatherings or hiding gifts. Her homemade chocolates were especially memorable for those who snuck into the fridge to consume them. Her love of animals resulted in a menagerie of rabbits, cats, and dogs in our family home over the years.
As her children grew, Maureen began contributing towards the family income through office administration and bookkeeping work both in Neepawa and Brandon. She joined her eldest daughter Colleen in Winnipeg where she spent her remaining time working with Bristol Aerospace as a technical librarian – a job that gave her great satisfaction. In her leisure hours, Maureen volunteered with the Order of the Eastern Stars and with her two other favorite pastimes reading books and playing cards.
She is predeceased by her parents Sadie and James Walker; brothers Keith and Jimmy; Donald
(former spouse), and her granddaughter Jezeray. Maureen is survived by her children David, Colleen, Alex and Dianne, as well as her grandchildren Kelly, Stephen, Kaylee, Hanna, Caedd, August, Jozi, and Carina along with her great- grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to express our deep gratitude towards the paramedics, nurses, doctors, and health care aids who supported our mom through the final stages of her life. Your compassion and patience as we navigated the current hospital palliative guidelines were appreciated.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Winnipeg or Brandon Humane Society.
Our mother will be laid to rest with her parents and near her brother Jimmy in Neepawa during a private ceremony later this month.
