Obituary
Maud Ethel Brosius (nee Elgin)
May 2,1923-November 6,2020
Maud, one of eight children, was born on a ranch west of Fort Macleod. She often told us memories of riding horses to school, picking flowers on the hillsides, and hunting for arrowheads at the site of Head Smashed-In-Buffalo Jump. In 1942 Maud and Harry Brosius ran away to Calgary and got married. From 1942-1958 they farmed at various locations around Fort Macleod while raising 4 children , Louise, Lee, Linda & Don. They purchased the Texaco Service Station on the out skirts of town in 1959. Harry was also the Oliver Machinery dealer. In 1960 their youngest daughter Brenda was born. In 1964 Maud and Harry, wanting to return to farming searched throughout Alberta, before moving to Wetaskiwin. Here they enjoyed owning a mixed farm in the John Knox district until Harry’s death in 1972.
In 1973 Maud and Brenda moved to Longview to be close to Louise and family. Maud worked at several occupations including cook and care-aid at Medicine Tree Manor, and volunteering at the Longview Information Booth. She took great enjoyment travelling by bus tours to Alaska, Mexico, Eastern Canada , Western USA, or driving her little blue station wagon wherever a map and a road would take her.
In 1999 she returned to Wetaskiwin and “her Harry”. She was active in the Wetaskiwin Seniors Centre, enjoyed winning at Bingo, quilting, crocheting, auctions and collecting miniature lamps and commemorative Whiskey Bottles. A visit with Grandma Maud wasn’t complete until a crib or card game had happened.
From 2015 until her passing she resided at Season’s Retirement Village. She enjoyed socializing with residents and staff, Crib games, Card Bingo and Horserace games.
Maud is survived by her children-Louise Russell, Linda (Maurice) Olson, Don (Judy) Brosius, Brenda (Harvey) King, daughter-in-law Dianna Brosius, 11 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and 6 great, great grandchildren.
Maud was pre-deceased by her husband, Harry (1972); son, Lee (2018); son-in-law Roy (2012)
As per Maud’s wishes a graveside service will be held for family.
