Van-Duin, Mattheus- 79 of Carleton passed away on May 30, 2020, in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born in the Netherlands, Mattheus worked as a lawyer but his true passion was Football, playing semi-pro for the Netherlands national team in the 1974 World Cup team. After moving to Yarmouth he became a member of the Yarmouth Arts Society. His hobbies were painting and writing. A true nature lover he enjoyed going for walks in the woods and would pick berries and apples. He would also enjoy feeding the beavers, once having one eat an apple out of his hand. He also kept involved in playing his favourite sport, trying to organise a soccer team at NSCC Burridge campus. Surviving are his Wife Margriet; Sons Richard and Eugene (Manon), Netherlands; Step Daughter Antoinette Klaasen (Stefan), Netherlands; Brother Gerard (Jopie), Netherlands; grandchildren Davey,Nadia and Alyssa, and stepgrandchild Tommy. Besides his parents Mattheus was predeceased by his niece Suusje. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Sweeny’s Funeral Home , Yarmouth. A memorial service in Mattheus memory will be held at a later date when restrictions are lifted. Donations in Mattheus memory can be made to the Yarmouth Regional Hospital or Operation smile.
