Obituary of Mary Margrete Froberg
It is with sadness the family of Mary Froberg announces her death occurred on October 23, 2020 at Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon. She is predeceased by parents Johanna (Anna) and John Yurach; sister Rose and her husband Robert (Bob) Kirkby; sister Victoria (Vicky) and Raymond (Ray) Blair; brother Charles (Charlie) and wife Verna (nee Campbell); brother Edward (Eddie) and wife Ruth (nee McAfee); and brother in law Nicholas (Dick) Derbowka. Mary is survived by husband Averill (Abe) of 65 years; daughters Marnie Froberg and Darlene Froberg; sister Patricia (Pat) Derbowka; sister in law Joyce Finch and husband Stan Finch; and numerous nieces and nephews and their children.
Mary was born March 11, 1922 at Booth Siding near Raymore SK, and attended Wynyard School starting in 1929. She graduated with a Grade 12 Diploma. In 1943, she attended the Saskatoon Business College at the Prince Albert SK location, and later worked in the Royal Bank in Prince Albert SK for 7 years and the Royal Bank in Saskatoon for 5 years. In 1954, she met Abe on a blind date at the Blossom Ball at the Bessborough Hotel, and in May 1955, she married Abe and were together 65 years
Before she was married she was a member of a sorority club called Beta Sigma Phi. She enjoyed dancing and attended many dances with Abe at the Manhattan Ballroom and later on at the Pensioners and Pioneers club. She belonged to the Scandinavian Club and was also a member for several years of the Wandering Wheels recreational camping club. She was lifetime member of the Saskatoon Craft Guild where she tried a new craft every year. One of her favorite crafts was tatting, which she also taught to other members of the group. She enjoyed writing poetry and would often dream up a poem for a special occasion in the middle of the night. She was also interested in astronomy and would often stay up late to watch an eclipse or other natural event. She enjoyed sports too, particularly the Toronto Blue Jays when they were on a winning roll.
The private service is limited to family and close friends. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, a charity that Mary supported. Thank you to the Nurses, Doctors and Support Staff of 5th Floor at the Royal University Hospital for providing excellent care in these trying times.
