Mary “Yvonne” Elizabeth (Poirier) Lunn
1929-2020
It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to
our mother Yvonne who passed away on December 22, 2020 in Valley
Regional Hospital at the age of 91. Yvonne moved to Kentville from
Inverness, Cape Breton in the late 1940s to take a position as a
housekeeper with a family here. Imagine her surprise arriving in the
midst of the Apple Blossom Festival that year. It was shortly after
that she met the man she would spend the next seventy plus years with,
Laurie Lunn. Although Yvonne lived in Kentville for the majority of
her life, a huge piece of her heart remained in Cape Breton and she
proudly wore the Cape Breton tartan at every opportunity. Yvonne is
survived by her daughter, Carole Blackbird; son-in-law, Steve; their
children, Shawn Blackbird (Michelle) and Andrew Blackbird (Melanie);
daughter, Melanie Lunn; son-in-law, Craig Dunham and their four-legged
children; son, Glen Lunn and his son Ryan. She also leaves behind
great-grandchildren, Liam Barteaux, Kaelyn Blackbird, Adelynn and Sam
Blackbird; God-Children Kelly and Troy Harnish, sisters Theresa Smith
(Towee), Phyllis McKinnon (Sook), and several nieces and nephews. In
addition to her husband Laurie, she is predeceased by her parents; her
brothers, Simon, Buddy, and Chuck; and her sisters, Lillian Poirier
(in infancy) and Molly Timmons. In keeping with her wishes, cremation
has taken place and there will be no funeral or visitation. The family
would like to thank the nurses, Dr. McClure, Dr. Murphy, Dr. Morgan
and the staff at the Emergency department and Medical A at Valley
Regional Hospital for their care of Yvonne during her hospital stay.
We would also like to thank Dr. Nunn and Janice Nunn, Debbie Hill and
Rhea Farris at Covington Family Practice in Kentville for the
continued care Yvonne received with them. A very special thank you to
Serenity and Charlie for the special care you took with her during
your home visits. Donations in Yvonne’s memory may be made to the
charity of your choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to White
