An avid reader, Mom was also an avid gambler who loved bingo and cards. She spent her lifetime playing auction, 45’s rumolli, cribbage and poker with her siblings, cousins, children and grandchildren.
Mom worked over three decades in the grocery business, beginning her career with Ayres Supermarket which was later sold to Dominion. In 1964 she won the national Checker of the Year and went on to compete in Chicago. A longtime member of the Elks Club, Mom was a proud Lady of the Royal Purple
One of Mom’s life goals was to live to be one hundred and get a letter from the queen. With that goal achieved Mom decided it was time to leave. She will be missed by many, especially by her favorite nieces, Barbara Ashley, Dianne O’Leary, and Flo Evans and husband Justin Conway. Our brother, Jim, always said Mom would give her last crust of bread to someone in need. She was a wonderful example for us all. A special thanks to the staff of St. Patrick’s Mercy Home, 1st floor north, for the wonderful care of Mom.
