Mary MacDonald
1927-2020
The death
occured on April 26th, 2020 of Mary (Sandy) MacDonald in her 93rd
year, at the Dr. John M. Gillis Memorial Nursing Home. Mary died
peacefully after a 2 year battle with dementia. Mary was born in High
Bank, May 12, 1927, daughter of the late Norman C. and Sarah (MacKay)
Stewart and lived in NB, Quebec, and Germany but PEI was always home
and this is where she raised her family. Mary was predeceased by her
first husband Clarence White ( Murray Harbour) in 1968 and her beloved
George Alexander (Sandy) MacDonald (Brudenell) in 2010. Mary was a
gentle soul, loved by all. Mary loved to travel whether on island or
off and she never refused an opportunity to “go for a
drive.” Mary loved to knit and crochet and her beautiful prize
winning handiwork was admired by all. Over the last several years Mary
knit hundreds of customized Christmas stockings for families all over
Canada as well as mittens and socks which she gifted to friends and
family and donated to charities. Mary loved being with family and
friends and especially being surrounded by children and animals. For
the last several years her beloved roommate at Perrins,
“Gummie,” the cat brought her great joy! While she was
quiet, often listening while others told the stories, she was happiest
when she was surrounded by those she loved. Mary is survived by her
four loving children. Tommy MacDonald (Dundas, PE), Jennifer and
son-in-law Allan ( Foothills, Alberta), Jeffrey, and Shane and
daughter-in-law Velda ( Montague PE ). She is also survived by her
sisters Janet Stewart (Belfast), Betty ( Malcolm) Maclean (Little
Sands) and by Susan Williams, “who she loved like her own.”
Mary will be missed by her grandchildren and great grandchildren and
her extended family and friends. Predeceased by brothers and sisters,
Lawrence, Malcolm, Laughie, William, Norman, Sadie MacLean, Jessie Mae
Bell and Evelyn Machon. Mary lived for several years at Perrins Marina
Villa and spent her final months at the Dr. John M. Gillis Memorial
Nursing Home. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt appreciation
to the wonderful caregivers whose kindness and dedication while caring
for Mary especially during her dementia journey, was
remarkable.
Due to the current public
health crisis, a private family graveside service will be held in the
Murray Harbour Cemetery at a later date. A celebration of
Mary’s life will be held at a future date. donations may be
made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of PE or Montague Church
of Christ. Condolences may be sent through our website at
