Mary Lou Gillet
1943-2020
It is with deep sadness that the family of Mary Lou (Boyd)
Gillet of Gagetown, NB, announces her unexpected passing on August 28,
2020, after a brief stay at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional
Hospital.
Mary Lou was a loving wife, mother and nana, and family meant
everything to her. She was born in Moncton, NB, on June 18, 1943. As a
child, she lived in Richibucto and later moved to Saint John, NB,
where she graduated from Saint John Vocational High School and then
worked for NB Tel. She met Walter, the love of her life, on a blind
date arranged by her late brother-in-law, David Gillet, and his wife
Carole, and they married less than a year later. They raised their
family in Oromocto, NB, until they moved to the Village of Gagetown
upon Walter’s retirement from the Canadian Armed Forces. In
later years, she was active in the Ladies Auxiliary of the Royal
Canadian Legion Branch #71 and volunteered her time for various other
community needs. Mary Lou had a quick wit and made everyone feel like
family who visited her home. She loved her gardens, bird watching, and
especially her annual visits to family in Ontario.
She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Walter,
Gagetown, NB; adoring children Calvin (Caitlin), Ottawa, ON, Cindy
(Jake DeLorey), Fredericton, NB, and Peter (Darlene), Cumberland Bay,
NB; beloved grandson Liam DeLorey, Fredericton, NB; and siblings
Shirley (Alan) Worokevich, Jim Irving, Jack (Sylvia) Irving, Bill
(Rose) Irving, Mike (Marilyn) Irving, and Mark (Rowena) Irving, all of
southern Ontario. She will be greatly missed by many nieces, nephews,
and cousins.
Mary Lou was predeceased by her parents, Barbara (MacDonald)
and Lleroy Boyd, her biological parents, Ella and John Irving, and
brothers Richard Irving (Thorold, ON) & George Irving
(Riverview, NB).
The family cannot thank the staff of the DECH 4NW enough for
their wonderful caring ways.
Due to current travel restrictions, the family will hold the
funeral and interment in the spring of 2021. In lieu of flowers,
donations may be made to the Canadian Lung Association or a charitable
organization of your choice in Mary Lou’s
memory.
