Mary Jane Reid (nee Robertson)
January 16, 1926 – April 17, 2020
Passed peacefully away at Carbonear General Hospital on Friday, April 17, 2020, Mary Jane (Jean) REID of Dildo, aged 94 years.
Jean is predeceased by husband, Les; parents, John and Mary Robertson of Scotland; siblings- Jessie, Johnny, Bill, Charlie, Annie and Marion; daughter, Emily; and granddaughter, Katherine.
Leaving to mourn: daughter, Mary (Gerald); son, Jack (Tannis); grandchildren, Laurie Ann, Mitchell, Marcel, Courtney, and Cameron; great-grandchildren, Preston, Karissa, Arianna, and Sebastian; sister, Margaret Penny who resides in Clarke’s Beach; a large circle of nephews, nieces, many friends and relatives from “across the sea”, as well as neighbours and many community friends that span over nearly 75 years since her settling in Dildo with her husband Les.
In 1946, Jean together with her husband Leslie Reid of Dildo, who served with the Nfld. Foresters in Scotland, and their infant daughter Mary left Scotland and arrived in Dildo where she would contribute to the running of a family business and building a loving family. Throughout her life Jean built many wonderful friendships. Her quiet disposition, her humour, and her exceptional memory for detail filled many family gatherings with lasting memories. Jean was so very kind and her hospitality stands as a testament to both her Scottish roots and her fully adopted Newfoundland spirit. If you met her you loved her. She has truly been the family’s anchor; she will be deeply missed and remain forever in our hearts.
Unfortunately, due to circumstantial restrictions of which we are all aware, the family has to follow the Private Visitation and Private Burial procedure and will plan for some form of life celebration at a later time.
The family sends special thanks to Jean’s long-time family physician, Doctor Robert Humber, in whom she placed absolute confidence for his professionalism and caring manner. Sincere thanks are also extended to Drs. Holloway & Adheers and the nursing staff who attended to her comfort at the Carbonear Hospital’s Palliative Care Unit. Thanks to the attendants with Smith’s Ambulance Service and medical personnel at the Whitbourne Clinic; also, to neighbours and family friends who kept concerned contact during her short time in hospital.
For anyone wishing to offer donations in Jean’s memory, the family would kindly request that you make such available to the Cemetery Fund at All Saints Church in Dildo. If you wish to donate by e-transfer, you may send donations to cwarren_25@icloud.com. Please indicate in message that the donation is in memory of Mary Jane (Jean) Reid.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Warren’s Funeral Home, Dildo.
