Obituary
Our family is saddened but grateful to announce and celebrate a life well lived after a long period of declining health at Rocmaura Nursing Home. Mary “Carmel” Harrington (Donovan) wife of the late James V. Harrington (1920-2010) passed on April 23, 2020 with her family by her side.
Born in Blackville, NB on April 27, 1924, the daughter of Clara Bridget Fitzpatrick and Francis Henry Donovan. She was the last of her immediate family, grew up in Chatham, NB and was predeceased by brothers Allan (1920-1993) (Una), Crumley (1918-1928) and best friend M. Kathleen Kelly (1921-2009)
Carmel graduated from St. Michaels Academy and then as a Registered Nurse from Hotel Dieu Nursing School, Chatham NB. Prior to marriage she nursed in both Chatham and Moncton where she took on the role as Supervisor of Nursing at Moncton TB Hospital. She then became a patient after contracting TB while caring for the ill.
Survived by sons Daniel (Mary) of Crocker Hill NB , Allan (Brenda) Quispamsis and daughter Mary Ann of Fredericton along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and her Godson Robert Usher of Bloomfield. Cherished Gram to her grandchildren Colleen, Patrick, Erin, Alex and Ben.
A long-time faithful parishioner of St. Ann’s Church she also belonged to St. Ann’s Ladies Society and was active in the Canadian Irish Cultural association. She remained very proud of her Miramichi and Irish heritage.
Many thanks to Rocmaura Nursing Home Management and Staff for their care, respect and compassion throughout the past 4 years and to Al & Anita Smith for many years of their support and friendship. Also, with gratitude to Dr. Winston Lee for the many years of care and understanding.
In keeping with the provincial restrictions regarding social distancing, a celebration of life will take place on a later date. Please check back with the Fundy Funeral Home for confirmed dates and times.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Romero House, Rocmaura Foundation, Cathedral Restoration Project, St. Michael’s Basilica Capital Fundraising Campaign or a charity of one’s choice.
