With sad & heavy hearts we, the family of the late Mary Agnes Keating announce her passing on Wednesday, May 27, 2020 at the Miller Crossing Long Term Care facility in Edmonton Alberta. Mom was 85 years old.
Mom was born on January 19, 1935 in Cape St. George Nl to Adolph & Cecilia Simon. She lived in Cape St George most of her life with her husband, Harold George Keating who she married on October 12, 1953.
Together Mom & Dad raised 8 children. Times weren’t always easy, but together they built a home, raised cattle, and managed to provide for us all. Mom always made sure meals were prepared and the house was in order. She did her best to instill a good work ethic and the value of a hard day’s work. As children we were always excited to go to the building for bowls of cream to have with jam and fresh bread. Mom was an avid berry picker and could be found every fine day, in the field with her rubber boots picking berries for jam and pies that she enjoyed to prepare. She loved to sew and knit, her handmade blankets, knitted socks, mittens and slippers were prized possessions to many. Mom had a deep faith and enjoyed summer trips to St. Anne De Beaupre with her sister Lucy. Mom was fiercely independent, and some would say stubborn, but she loved her family with all her heart and showed her soft heart to few.
Mom is survived by her children, Wayne (Melinda), Ontario, Moya (Gordon), Nl, Mildred (Brian), Evlyeen, Imelda (David), Meta, Mona (Harry) all of Nova Scotia, William (Philomena), Jamie (Vi) Nl. Her sisters Lucy, Nl, Monica, AB, Ameldia (Willie) Kansas City USA. Mom was a grandmother to 16 and great grandmother to 20.
She will be greeted in heaven by her parents, Adolph & Cecilia Simon, her husband, Harold Keating, her sisters Mary Florence, Bertina, May and her brothers Benjamin, Neil, & Ernest.
The family would like to extend many thanks to the staff of the Miller Crossing Long Term Care Facility for their care of Mom. Also, to nephew Elmer Simon (Amber) for watching over Mom in her last few years.
As per Mom’s wishes cremation has taken place and there will be a private family interment at a later date.
“There are no goodbyes for us. Wherever you are, you will always be in my heart.”
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Mary Agnes Keating January 19 1935 May 27 2020..
