Passed away at the Wawanesa Health Centre on Monday October 19, 2020 at the age of 65 years, Marlene Lillian Verstraete, of Wawanesa, MB.
Marlene leaves to mourn her passing son Matthew Street (Stacey) of Brandon, MB, daughters Michelle Street of Wawanesa, MB & Jennifer Street (Dennis Battershell) of McCreary, MB; grandchildren Keith & Tara Battershell; brother Dan Verstraete of Dunrea, MB, sister Joyce Urbanski (Glen) of Winnipeg, MB as well as other extended family members & friends. She was predeceased by her husband Ray Street (2015) and by parents Rene & Margaret Verstraete.
Marlene, unable to wait until getting to a hospital, was born on a farm where her parents were currently living. They eventually moved to Ninette where she spent her childhood and went to school.
After a few years of working at a hospital in Killarney, Fairview PCH in Brandon, and the Brandon Public Library, she settled down on a farm near Wawanesa with her husband Raymond for 23 years before his passing.
She spent her time reading as many books as she could get her hands on, enjoying farm life, and loving her family. After battling cancer off and on for several years she finally passed away.
A Graveside service will be on Saturday October 24, 2020 at 1:30 pm at the Millford Cemetery, Treesbank MB with Pastor Garnet Hodges officiating.
All are welcome to attend.
Due to the Covid-19 restrictions regarding indoor gatherings, a Celebration of Marlene’s life will be held for family & close friends at the Treesbank Community Church following the interment.
