Obituary
Mark Allen Grandberg
Aug 4, 1977 – May 9, 2020
With great sadness we announce Mark’s passing into a pain free world.
Mark was the youngest in the Grandberg family. He made our family complete.
Mark overcame many challenges in his life and met them with a positive attitude, determination and courage. Mark was not perfect, as no one is, but he was an inspiration to many by how he took life as it came, did the best he could, kept smiling in the midst of difficulties and treated people well. As one person put it, he was a truly good human. He made many friends everywhere he went, with his big smile, sense of humour and genuine empathy for others, which endeared him to everyone.
Mark attended Queen Elizabeth School & Mount Royal Collegiate. In his younger years, Mark was an active Cub Scout, played whatever sports he could, and bowled in the youth league at Eastview Bowl for many years. Mark was active with Little People of Saskatchewan, treasured the years he spent as manager of Huskie Basketball, and worked in security at the Saskatoon Airport. Mark also really enjoyed Karaoke and made many good friends through his times at Crackers in particular and other places around Saskatoon.
Mark was a fiercely loyal person. In the words of a friend, he was a selfless man who loved his friends and family so much. He put family and friends first and would go out of his way to help out however he could, even if it wasn’t always reciprocated. He loved people and particularly children, who he would open his heart to, joke around with and just generally love. He got so much joy out of time spent with kids and would support them in any way that he could. Many of his connections blossomed into lifelong friendships, having him ‘adopted’ as an honorary member of their extended family and sometimes ‘Uncle Mark’ to their kids.
The family would like to thank everyone who befriended Mark, allowed him into their hearts and their lives and who encouraged him in all his endeavors… whether you knew him when he was growing up as part of the Elm Street Gang, or if you met him as an adult, or anywhere in between.
Mark will be greatly missed by his parents, Ken & Peggy; his siblings Colin, Darren, Wendy, Kevin, Glenna, and Maggie; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; his many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins; and a special cousin Wendy and family; as well as many friends he has impacted in his short life, of notable mention is a special relationship with Natasha (who he was Uncle Mark to) and her mom Lisa.
Mark was predeceased by his special friend Kelly, his grandparents, sister Mary, nephew Cody, and (biological) father Lewis Brothwell and grandmother Hazel Brothwell.
A big debt of gratitude to the staff at Northridge 2, Parkridge Center and the doctors & nurses at St. Paul’s ICU.
A memorial will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Kinsmen Foundation or Little People of Saskatchewan.
