Marjorie Jean Sullivan RN
1930-2020
SULLIVAN, Marjorie Jean
– With heavy hearts, we announce the passing
of mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Marjorie Jean (Toze)
Sullivan on Sunday, March 22 2020, in Milford Haven Home for Special
Care. Born in Tillsonburg, Ontario, August 21, 1930 to the late Susan
(Theobald) and Harry Toze. Marjorie worked alongside her parents and
sister as hired hands on a variety of farms. This is where she
developed her love for the outdoors and the care of many types of farm
animals. This work allowed her to follow her dream to attend Brantford
General Hospital School of Nursing becoming a RN.
It was while nursing at the hospital, she met the love of her
life John William and they married on September 25, 1954. They moved
from Brantford, ON to Manchester, NS in 1963, with 5 children
continued their family adding an additional 3 children. They raised
their 8 children on the family farm teaching them many life skills,
including how to worked together, developing great sense of pride in a
job well done and a strong work ethic. Marjorie put great love,
passion and dedication into everything she did, from raising and
feeding her family, to her career as a compassionate nurse. Marjorie
had a tenacity to finish what she started.
Marjorie returned to nursing in October of 1969 at
Guysborough Memorial Hospital. During nursing cuts of 1994, Marjorie’s
compassion for putting others first, shined through, as she retired
earlier to save a younger nurses’ job. Marjorie was predeceased by her
sisters Lilian, Barbara, daughter, Barbara Jean in infancy and husband
John. Marjorie is survived by children: Frederick, Douglas, Alice,
Robert, Susan, Eric, Brian, and Myra, plus 15 grandchildren and one
great granddaughter.
Cremation has taken place and there will be no
visitation. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the
Guysborough Memorial Hospital Foundation. Church services and a
celebration of Marjorie’s life will take place at a later
date.
