Marion Lachance nee Waldron 1930 2020

Obituary of Marion Lachance (nee Waldron)
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Marion at the Pontiac Community Hospital in Shawville, Quebec at the age of 90 on Thursday, December 24th 2020 due to complications from a stroke.
Marion was a fiercely independent person right until the end of her life. As a young woman, her husband died & she was left with 3 young children, a mortgage to pay & a car she didn’t know how to drive. Nothing deterred her. She went on to remarry, moved the family to Burford, ON & entered into an entrepreneurial venture. Together, she & Marty turned a failing business into a highly successful family restaurant & gas bar. People would drive for miles to enjoy Marion’s famous hamburgers and fries. After 7 yrs. of a grueling schedule, they moved into retirement & settled in Fort Coulonge, Quebec.
Marion was an enthusiastic armchair sports fan. Tennis & golf were two of her favorites. In her youth, she was a champion bowler. Marion was a dedicated early-morning walker. You would be hard-pressed to keep up with her pace even in old age. She enjoyed bingo and solving Sudoku puzzles, the tougher the better. Marion loved card games; she was a tough competitor & played to win. She was strong-willed and sharp-witted, never shy to offer her opinion or enter into a good debate, a quirky trait that her many friends & family members lovingly remember. Some would call her feisty.
Marion was predeceased by her husband of 37 yrs., Martel Lachance (2003) and her 1st husband, Bob Frederick (1962). Marion was predeceased by her sisters Grace, Kathleen & Eileen, and brothers, Leonard & Vincent. She was also recently predeceased by her cherished daughter, Kim (Rick) who lost her struggle with lung cancer & COPD on November 21st. Kim was 61 yrs. old.
Marion will be dearly missed & lovingly remembered by her daughter, Deborah (Mitch) and son, Robert, her devoted sister, Elsie, as well as her four grandchildren: Mathew, Isaac, Kory & Kourtney, and her three great grandchildren: Mathew Jr., Isaac & Kiera. Marion is also missed by her many nieces, nephews and friends who all reminisce about her long & well-lived life.
We would like to thank the many doctors & nurses at the emergency department and palliative care unit at the Pontiac Community Hospital. Our profound appreciation to you for caring for Marion in her final days. Thank you for responding to her needs when she couldn’t speak for herself. A huge thank you to Marion’s friends & family members who were able to visit her in hospital & called to speak to her. Your kindness & support offered Marion comfort, reassurance & validation that she was loved. A memorial service will be arranged for Marion & Kim in the future. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Pontiac Community Hospital Foundation or the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada.
