Surviving Marion is 1 daughter; Dale, 4 sons; Robert, Jack (Eileen), Don and Blair as well as numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Mom has been basically a survivor from an early age. Her Father, an immigrant from Glasgow, Scotland fell off the boat when he came to Canada and served as a Deacon with the Anglican Church. Unfortunately, both Father and Daughter contracted Tuberculosis.
Mom’s family moved back to Granny’s in Cumberland House, then barged over to Cranberry Portage on the Saskatchewan River to work for Jack. Jack had other things in mind.
Mom started school in Cranberry at age 8 and 3 years later, caught up to her own age group. Soon after, the teacher told Mom to go home and stay home. Mom was too big. So, Mom got about half her grade 12.
Mom’s working years were spent cleaning at the old Saskatoon Hotel, was the cleaning staff on the midnight shift at the Star-Phoenix and closed out her career at the Parktown Hotel as a housekeeper.
As most would agree, Mom was overworked and underpaid! But she got a raise when her CPP cut in and was able to stash her funds.
Mom’s passions were reading about 8 pocket books a month, crocheting, her house, family and not always in that order.
Mom’s favorite charity was the Hospital Home Lottery.
Special thanks to the care givers at Seniors First, Home Care and at the Parkridge Center.
