Marion’s Obituary
SURETTE, Isabel “Marion” – age 88, of Halifax, formerly of Sluice Point, passed away unexpectedly at the QE II Health Sciences Centre (Infirmary Site) on Thursday, January 30, 2020. Born December 5, 1931 in Sluice Point, Marion left her home at the age of 17 and moved to Halifax. She was employed by Sears for more than 35 years, a job from which she eventually retired. She was a member of Saint Mary’s Basilica and had a great devotion to Sainte Anne, having made several pilgrimages to Sainte-Anne de Beaupré. Marion contributed to her community through volunteer work with the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Red Cross and other organizations. She was recognized with volunteer awards, both provincially and locally. Marion was the daughter of the late Actime and Anita (Bourque) Surette. She is survived by her siblings, Frances Surette, Tusket Villa and Alfred “Fred” Surette, Sluice Point as well as by many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by siblings Louis Surette, Rose Emma Sowyrda, Lena Robichaud, Regina Bourque, Irene Surette, Evelyn Comeau and Thérèse Surette. Visitation will take place from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Huskilson’s Memorial Chapel, 29 Albert Street, Yarmouth with prayers at 7 p.m. A funeral Mass will take place at 10:30 a.m., Monday, February 3 at Holy Family Church, Amirault’s Hill, Father Cyrille Assihou officiating. Interment to follow in the church cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Nova Scotia Heart & Stroke Foundation or to a charity of your choice.
