Obituary
Marion Agnes Butcher (Nee Wallace) died unexpectedly of cardiac arrest, in Calgary, Alberta, on August 23rd, at the age of 74.
Marion (Mini) is survived by her husband Doug Butcher; daughters, Deanna Berberich (Jeramy) and Cheryl Butcher (Cody Johnson); sisters, Lorna Sigstad (Merv) and Marlene Wallace (Bob); and five grandsons, Mehkai, Teagan, Cohen, Quaid and Navin; as well as several nieces and cousins.
She is preceded in death by her parents Ech and Ruth Wallace, and her twin sister, Donna Crozier.
Marion was born on January 6th, 1946, in Nokomis, Saskatchewan, to Echlin and Ruth Wallace. After highschool, Marion attended business college to become an administrative assistant. She worked for several years at the University of Saskatchewan, in Regina, until she decided to move to Calgary. There, she met and married Doug in 1973. During her time in Calgary, Marion worked as a secretary in several hospitals, schools and with the oil and gas industry. She was very organized in her jobs, and really enjoyed working with people.
In the next few years, Marion and Doug welcomed Deanna and Cheryl into their home. Marion was a compassionate mother, who taught her daughters to love and serve others. She also encouraged them to develop their talents and reach for the stars.
Marion was an accomplished pianist and singer, and enjoyed all kinds of music. She often played the piano & organ in church and sang in several choirs. She frequently attended and enjoyed local musical concerts and events. Marion was an active member of her local Toastmaster’s group. She enjoyed meeting with the group each week, and often spoke of the skills she was learning and friendships she made there. She was a mentor to many members of the group. Marion also loved to be outside and spent many fun times camping with her family and friends near lakes or in the mountains. She loved to walk her dog near Springbank.
Mini lived life with a positive attitude, always looking for the best in people. She was never shy to converse with strangers, and was always willing to help someone in need. Mini was a very good listener, and was always interested in what her loved ones were doing. She often looked for opportunities to bring people together to share a meal and to play games. She was so proud of her family, especially her girls and five grandsons and their accomplishments. Our mom, Mini, was a bright light in the world, and she will be missed by all those who knew and loved her. We look forward to the day when we will meet again.
