On Tuesday, September 1, 2020, at the age of 75, Joyce died peacefully at home, holding her husband’s hand.
Joyce was predeceased by an older sister, Beverly; an older brother, Victor; a younger brother, David; and both of her parents, Walter Roy Adams and Alberta Jane Doiron (Adams, nee Farnham). She was born in Rimbey, the middle child of five. The family was not well off, and life was hard growing up. Joyce’s Dad was a saw man and her mom was a home maker. Mom said it was the norm to be in at least one new school every year. Mom vowed her children would live in the same place and not have a childhood as she did. Dad provided for the family and was away working a lot when we were growing up, so that Mom could keep her word, and home for us was in one place.
Surviving Joyce is her husband; two daughters; their spouses; two grandchildren; their spouses; one great-grandchild and one on the way; and many, many friends.
Mom was a hardworking woman, loved bingo, coffee, gardening, conversation and her family. Mom’s yard was something to behold with a variety of beautiful flowers. Her vegetable garden was prolific with an abundance of vegetables to be eaten fresh as well as preserved. Mom enjoyed listening to her police scanner and keeping on top of neighbourhood news and events. She watched out for her neighbours and vice versa. Years ago, Joyce was heavily involved in the CB radio scene, her handle was White Lightning. When we were kids, many of our friends called her Mom. She was there for all of them and gave them trouble when they needed it. But they all knew she loved them.
Joyce was always forward in her conversations with people. You most definitely knew what Mom thought about what you were doing. Mom did not want a funeral service. In light of not wanting a funeral service, we agreed we could hear her say, “thank you to all of you who came to see me when I was sick, and for those of you who didn’t come to see me, I’m not buying you lunch either.” That was Mom, take it or leave it, like it or not. If you choose to donate to a worthy charity in honour of Joyce, she would have liked that.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Marilyn Joyce Boyd September 1st 2020..
