Mariette’s Obituary
COMEAU (Belliveau), Mariette Alix – Yarmouth, passed away peacefully on August 25, 2020 just two days after her 95th birthday with her daughters at her side. A native of Meteghan, she was a daughter of Dr. Pierre and Angèle (Robichaud) Belliveau. She attended school in Sillery, Québec where she obtained a B.A. She went on to receive her M.S.W. from the Maritime School of Social Work. After a few years of social work in Digby County, she devoted herself to raising her family. In 1972, she returned to full time work as administrator of the Yarmouth Day Care Centre. In the 1980’s, she retired from that position to run Chez Mariette, a small bilingual nursery school in her home. She provided a wonderful learning experience for many children in the Yarmouth community with her program. Always active in her church, St. Ambrose Co-Cathedral, she devoted many years to the CWL, including executive roles. She spent many happy hours with her Bridge clubs, reading a good novel with her beloved Pom Benjamin, doing the daily cryptoquote and crossword and having her grandchildren close by. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by three brothers, Dr. Robert Belliveau, Dr. Gerald Belliveau and sister-in law Antoinette and Fr. Paul Belliveau; a brother-in-law, Louis Comeau and a granddaughter, Lianne Comeau. She is survived by a sister, Lorraine Comeau; a brother, Pierre (Jeannine) Belliveau; sister-in-law, Rose Belliveau; her four children, Michel (Trudy), Paul (Pat), Lise (Jim) Mood and Suzanne (Elroy) d’Entremont; grandchildren, Jeannette Comeau (Patrick Fok), Gilles (Kate) Comeau, Dominique Comeau, Ian Comeau, Shawn (Darcy) Comeau, Sarah (Shawn) Boudreau, Andrew (Courtney) Mood, Allister Mood (Candice Porter), Colin Mood, Phillip (Kaitlynn) d’Entremont and Alix d’Entremont (Trevor Saulnier), five great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She will be remembered for her patient, calm demeanor; a gentle lady with a big heart with an endless amount of love for her family. A visitation will take place from 7-9 p.m. Thursday, August 27 at Huskilson’s Funeral Home, 29 Albert Street, Yarmouth, with prayers at 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10 a.m., Friday, August 28 from St. Ambrose Co-Cathedral, Yarmouth, Father Henry Smolenaars officiating (live stream available via St. Ambrose Co-Cathedral Parish website). Due to Covid-19 restrictions, seating may be limited at both the visitation and the funeral Mass and social distancing guidelines must be followed. Also, please note that immediate family will be given priority for seating. It has been requested that there be family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to the Tri-County site of the VON or a charity of choice. We wish to thank the staff of the Meadows for all the compassionate tender care provided to mom over the years, also special thanks to Dr. Chandler and Dr. Horton. Arrangements have been entrusted to H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Yarmouth where you may leave messages of condolence for the family by visiting www.huskilson.net
