Obituary of Marie Germaine Young
Marie Germaine Young, age 90 , of Kimberley, passed away Sunday March 2, 2020 at East Kootenay Regional Hospital with her family close by.
She was predeceased by her parents Laurent and Cecile Martineau, her brothers Flo and Joe, sister Alice, and husband Colin.
Survived by her daughter Tage (Scratch), of Medicine Hat, son Audie of Calgary, granddaughter Stephanie of Calgary, and her sister Annette Thomson of Prince George. She will be fondly remembered by her numerous nieces, nephews and cousins – Gerald & Erda Walsh, Fern & Brian Chard, Clarie Fabien, Janet & Bill Forest, Gail & Wes Hazlitt. Marie will also be missed by her granddogs Indy, Sully, Rommy, and Zeppy.
She was born and grew up in Masham, Quebec, later moved to Donnelly Alberta, then settling in Kimberley BC, where her uncle Nap and brother Joe resided.
Marie liked to be called “Gerie”, she had a keen eye for interior decorating and made a beautiful home with a view of Mount Fisher. She enjoyed cultivation of indoor plants and summer flowers, and also raised many generations of hummingbirds that return to this day.
Her volunteer time was spent with the NDP and helping operate their bingo, and leisure time was spent with friends dinning out and enjoying their company.
No service by Gerie’s request, an interment of ashes will be held in late September, as the leaves turn, in Notre Dame Cemetery, Ottawa, Ontario
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to he Canadian Lung Association British Columbia Lung Association 2675 Oak Street, Vancouver, British Columbia, V6H 2K2, or the East Kootenay SPCA , PO Box 2, Cranbrook, British Columbia, V1C 4H6.
