Dohar, Maria
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Maria Valeria Dohar (nee Pális), age 83. She passed away peacefully on May 11, 2020, with her family by her side, after bravely living with cancer for some time. Maria was predeceased by her beloved husband, Joseph Dohar. She leaves behind her only child Victor Dohar, his wife Jo-Anne, and her two precious grandchildren Lindsay and Logan, who she loved very, very much. She also leaves behind her brother Pális Győző (Rózsi), nephews Pális Imre (Margit), Kollár Arpád, nieces Németh Ildikó (Tibor), Burda Anniko (Atila) and many other relatives and friends in Hungary; sister-in-law Iren Dohar, niece and god-daughter Isabella Bruce (Paul), great-niece Abigail Bruce and her many, many friends here in Canada. Predeceased by her parents Pális János and Pericht Mária, her brothers Pális János ifj. (Anna), Pális József, sisters Kollár Ilona (Alek), Pális Mariska, parents-in-law Mihaly and Elizabeth Dohar, brother-in-law Mihaly Dohar Jr., and nephew Vilmos Dohar.
She will always be remembered as a kind and gentle person, with tremendous love for her family. Her passion for gardening, joy of cooking and amazing seamstress skills will never be forgotten. Her deeply spiritual nature along with her dedication to many years of yoga came together in her final years when she became a member of the Self Realization Fellowship, giving her the strength and inner peace she was searching for. She was born in the beautiful village of Nagybörzsöny, Hungary, and upon hearing of her passing, the church bells were rung in her honour. She was an inspiration and an example for how to live your life fully and see the good in all. She was our angel and she will be greatly missed. The family would like to thank the staff at Revera Valley Stream Retirement Residence for their care, commitment and kindness extended to Maria during her stay, and to nurses Mang, Sue, Liza and Tony in her final days. Memorial service to be determined at a later date. For those wishing, a donation in Maria’s memory may be made to a religious organization of your choice, the Canadian Cancer Society, or the Alzheimer Society of Canada.
