Margaret Viola Polonich
November 28, 1930 – July 28, 2020
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Margaret Viola Polonich (nee Irving) of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, on July 28, 2020.
Margaret was born in Melfort, Saskatchewan, on November 28, 1930, to Susan (nee Leathem) and John Irving.
She spent her early years at her father’s lumber camps north of Nipwin, Saskatchewan, of which she loved to share many stories of her life experiences with her brothers and twin sister Marion during the early Depression years.
Her family moved into Nipawin in her middle school years, where she because an avid speed skater, and then moved to Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, where in high school she excelled at basketball. Living in a prairie city took a little getting used to after living in Northern Saskatchewan, which until her passing she considered the most beautiful place on earth.
After several years in Moose Jaw, she moved to Saskatoon where she married John Polonich. After John’s passing, she moved to Prince Albert.
Margaret was an active member of the Prince Albert Legion Women’s Auxiliary, serving a term as President and secretary, until her health declined. She loved participating in the Legion activities where she made many dear friends.
In her later years, her pastimes included shuffleboard and visiting with her friends at Carment Court, secretly going to the casino (which was no secret), and playing crib and games on her iPad.
Margaret loved her family and all their special occasions and get-togethers over the years. She enjoyed a good joke, and her quick wit kept everyone on their toes.
She is survived by her two daughters, Janice (David) Monette of Prince Albert, Joanne (Perry) Ferguson of Winnipeg, Manitoba; her grandchildren Chris (Stacey) Monette of Prince Albert, Jennifer (David) Stiff of Winnipeg, Amanda (Mike) Pepe of Winnipeg, Justin (Dana) Monette of Prince Albert; her great-grandchildren Samantha Monette, Julia Stiff, Cadence Monette, Xander Stiff, Nicolas Pepe, Adriana Pepe, Olivia Stiff, Drea Pepe and Zayda Monette.
Margaret is also survived by her twin sister Marion Mills of Saskatoon and brother Earl Irving of Stonewall, Manitoba, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband John Polonich, grandson Julian Monette, and oldest brother Edward Irving.
The Family would like to extend our special thanks to Dr. Surkan for his patience and care, and the staff at Pineview Terrace Long Term Care for their compassion during Mom’s short stay. Those last few months, Mom was happy and truly cared for.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a small family service will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2020 at Gray’s Funeral Chapel, Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. Interment will be at a later date at Hilllcrest Memorial Gardens in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
