Malcolm’s Obituary
ATKINSON, Malcolm James – 80, Woods Harbour, passed away on August 7, 2020. Born September 14, 1939 at North East Point, Cape Sable Island to Charles and Helen (Nickerson) Atkinson, he was the eldest of eight children. Mackie worked at Scotia Marine Products for 32 years, retiring from a foreman position in 1990. He was a “Jack of all Trades”. After retiring he continued his handy man trade, repairing washers for many years throughout the community. His passion was trout fishing at Lake Ainslie, Cape Breton, with family members for many years. He also enjoyed deer hunting at the camps in Clyde River, Mill Village and Lab’s. He is survived by his wife, Enid (Nickerson); sons, James (Louise), Middle East Pubnico; Jeffery (Tammy), Woods Harbour; Douglas (Nancy), Goose Lake; step-daughters, Holly (Perry) d’Entremont, West Pubnico; Gwen (Johney) Ross, Stoney Island; Angela (Wayne) Crowell, Charlesville; stepsons, Herbert Malone (Claudette), Oak Park; Barry Malone, Woods Harbour; Gerard Stoddard (Nicole Cameron), Lower East Pubnico; Gregory Stoddard, South Ohio; Phillip Stoddard, Lower East Pubnico; brother, Dean (Gail), Centreville; sisters, Janice Fry, Alberta; Gail (Ob) Hopkins, Centreville; Susan (Allison) Atkinson; North East Point; Debra (Vacil) Atwood, Barrington; Donna (Leslie) Shand, Doctor’s Cove; Cynthia (Darryl) Atkinson, Barrington Passage; 19 grandchildren; 14 step-grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 10 step-great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; also several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Besides his parents, Mackie was predeceased by, former wife, Mary (Nickerson) Malone; mother of his three sons, wife, Emma (Goreham); daughter, April O’Connell; grandsons, Quinten Malone and Rene Malone, in infancy, and step-great-granddaughter, Mya Prouty. There will be a visitation held Monday, August 10, 6-8 p.m. at the H. M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Barrington. The funeral service will take place on Tuesday, August 11, 2 p.m. at the Calvary United Baptist Church, Woods Harbour, with Pastor Phil Williams officiating. All Covid-19 protocols will be followed, and the church can be filled at half capacity, at approximately 150 people. Interment to follow in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Upper Woods Harbour. Memorial donations in Mackie’s name may be made to the Rosalin Nickerson Care Fund, Mount Pleasant Cemetery, or a charity of your choice.
