La célébration de
Malcolm Alexander Smeaton
23 février 1950 –
21 juin 2020
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Malcolm Alexander Smeaton who died peacefully but suddenly at home in Toronto, Ontario, on June 21, 2020, at the age 70. Leaving to mourn his wife of 40 years Judy Stamp; his children: Heather, Samantha (Shawn), Samuel (Erin), Jacqueline (Leighland) , and William J. Smeaton. Also left to mourn are siblings: Jim (Donalda), Marjory (Blair); and grandchildren: Maya, Ella, Georgia, Isaiah, Eli, Luka, and Ezra. Predeceased by his parents William James and Jessie, sister Dorothy, and brother Edward.
Born in St. John’s, Newfoundland in 1950, Malcolm leaves behind a large circle of family, friends and colleagues from the Ontario Public Service and beyond, where he worked for over 25 years pioneering policy and program development in the areas of labour relations, security, pandemic planning, and business continuity. He was known for his strong leadership, his integrity, his fierce loyalty, and his diplomatic negotiating skills.
But to those who knew him and loved him most, his unique sense of humour, his generous and kind mentorship, and his insights on work and life are what will be greatly missed. His work ethic contributed to his long-standing career achievements, but at his core were the relationships he cultivated with his beloved family and friends. They will miss him dearly.
Malcolm’s continuous zest and curiosity for all things relating to current affairs, business, politics, finance, and travel, combined to create an entrepreneurial spirit that led him to many new adventures in retirement, including Whitehorse Consulting and Stamps Lane, Inc., just to name a couple.
He was truly one of a kind and his passing will leave a void in all those who knew and loved him.
A private family service will be held. Due to the current situation, a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Covenant House.
