Madeline Charlton
1921-2020
Madeline E. (Mersereau) Charlton went peacefully into the
arms of her Saviour at York Care Centre, Fredericton, NB on January
19, 2020, at the age of 98. Born in Juvenile, Sunbury County, NB, on
August 12, 1921, she was the wife of the late Harry Charles
Charlton.
Madeline leaves behind her daughter-in-law, Faye Charlton of
Fredericton, NB; grandchildren, Karen Cliff (Steven) of Fredericton
and Mark Charlton (Patricia) of Halifax, NS; great-grandchildren,
Amber Cliff and Chelsea Cliff and Eldora Charlton; sister-in-law,
Marion Mersereau of Hoyt, NB; brother-in-law, Harry Butler of Hoyt,
NB; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her husband,
Harry, Madeline was predeceased by her son, Gerald Charlton (Oct. 11,
2019); infant daughter, Grace Ann; parents, Raymond and Elsie
(Kirkpatrick) Mersereau; brothers, Lawrence, Kenneth and Ralph
Mersereau; sisters, Gertrude Charlton and Annie McClusky. Madeline was
the last remaining member of her immediate family.
Madeline loved baking, knitting, quilting, reading her Bible,
going to yard sales, and spending time with family and friends. She
especially cherished time spent with her great-granddaughters. She was
a caregiver to many friends and neighbours, helping them in any way
she could.
Special thanks to the staff at York Care Centre as well as
her care workers Kathy, Ruth, Anne Marie, Lynda, and Annette. Your
kindness and compassion will not be forgotten.
Visitation will be held at McAdam’s Funeral Home,
160 York St., on Friday, January 24, 2020, from 12:00-2:00 pm. A
funeral service will follow in the funeral home chapel beginning at
2:30 pm. Rev. Ken Charlton will officiate. Interment will take place
in Fredericton Rural Cemetery in the spring. For those who wish,
donations in Madeline’s memory can be made to the York Care
Foundation.
