It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear aunt and friend on January 7, 2020 at Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital in Trail.
Mabel was born to parents Jacob and Anastasia (Shukin) Popoff in Kylemore Sask. She came to BC in 1942 and settled in Creston until 1957 when she married the love of her life William Laktin.
In her earlier days she worked in a wood factory plant in the Okanagan making fruit and bedding baskets. She also worked in Nelson at Mount St. Francis. After getting married she devoted her life to her husband, her home and garden. Together they enjoyed camping in their get-a-way van, boating on Kootenay Lake, and travelling around BC, Saskatchewan , and the United States .
Mabel celebrated her milestone 100th birthday in November 2019 and was still living in her own home in Salmo, doing her own cooking, baking, shopping and passionately playing crib as often as she could. She was blessed with a remarkable memory and always had a story to tell.
She was predeceased by her husband William, parents Jacob and Anastasia Popoff, infant brother Peter, sisters Helen, Polly, Ann, and Mary, and is survived by many treasured nieces, grand-nieces, nephews, and grand-nephews.
Cremation has taken place and a graveside service will be held in the spring. Al Grywacheski of Alternatives Funeral and Cremation Services™ has been entrusted with arrangements.
We would like to acknowledge a special appreciation to Sharry Heighton for always being there for Mabel. We would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the doctors and staff at K.B.R.H. for their kind and compassionate care.
Always in our hearts, never forgotten.
You are invited to leave a personal message of condolence.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Mabel Laktin January 7th 2020..
