Obituary of Mabel Joyce Reid
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our Mom, Mabel Reid (Cotter) on July 26, 2020 at the age of 78 years Predeceased by her parents Stephen and Aurelia Cotter, husband David Reid and sister Patricia Laskey. Leaving to mourn children Stephen (Karen), Jeannette (Darrin), grandchildren Chelsea, William, James and Jagger, as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Mom had a long and fulfilling career as an Obstetric Nurse at the Grace General Hospital in St. John’s. “Cotter” was respected and loved by her nursing family, and the Grace Sorority shares in our loss. She touched so many lives through her work and helped so many people in her 30+ years as a caregiver, and in the years after her retirement. Ever the nurse, her favourite saying was “Are you ok?”
A heartfelt thanks to the staff at the Miller Center who were so kind and considerate in the last days of her life, to her homecare worker Alison who tirelessly made her last year a little easier, to her Doctors Rogers and Sutton, and to all the family and friends who visited and contacted Mom at home over the past year to bring a smile to her face. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a celebration of her life will take place at a later date open to family and friends. No flowers by request. Donations in Mabel’s memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice. To send a message of condolence, please visit www.hickeysfuneralhome.com
